Ardence - OverviewOne of the most common problems facing businesses and schools using PCs today is the inability to keep the machines up and running while keeping management costs down. With the prevalence of spyware, adware, viruses and operating system security holes, workstations are very susceptible to operating system corruption. The time it takes to repair these corrupted machines or apply the latest security patches to other machines places a heavy burden on already overworked technical staff. Ardence 3.x is a unique client systems management product that will change the way in which companies and educational institutions manage and utilize their workstations. Ardence software streaming solution delivers on the promise of easier client systems management by using virtual disk technologies. Workstations do not need a hard drive but instead boot off the network to a shared virtual disk image. In shared mode, the image cannot be changed or corrupted by the user. The user can interact with the desktop environment normally as if the hard drive was attached because all the changes are tracked in a cache file separate from the virtual disk image. Once the workstation is rebooted, the cache file is purged and the workstation is instantly restored to the original image state. This allows users to interact with the computers in a non-restrictive manner without the fear of corrupting the operating system or the applications. This is especially a major benefit to academic institutions where computer education classes require the users to make changes to the desktop environment. Ardence simplifies the process of maintaining and upgrading workstations because as the workstations are sharing a virtual disk, updates to the image only need to be applied once. As soon as the changes are made and the workstations are rebooted, all the workstations will have this new image. While there are many client management solutions out on the market, none has as complete a vision in dealing with the complete lifecycles of workstations as Ardence.
